The Crater is great. The visibility was excellent. One of the highlights was that, when you got under the water, you could hear the whales singing around you. Although we did not actually see any whales while diving, one was so close, you could feel the song reverberate through your body.
I have been certified for three years now. I have done most of my diving in the Bahamas. It was great to dive a different part of the world and see different things.
One thing to keep in mind is that the waters around Hawaii are a bit cooler than in the Bahamas. I only wear a dive skin in the Bahamas. But, off Maui, I was using a 3mm wet suit. Others were using two suits, hoods, and gloves. It is not cold, but in the winter, the water temp is in the high seventies. So, you can cool down rather quickly.
