NaPali Coast State Park

We hiked the two miles to Hanakapai Beach, which was wide and sandy before the winter tides. The views were spectacular all the way. Then, we went two more miles to Hanakapiai Falls. That is some pretty tough hiking, especially right at the end near the falls, but well worth it to see the falls. It can be done in running or tennis shoes and shorts, but takes some leaping over the stream at points. The four-mile hike back was tiring. In all, it was about a 5.5-mile hike with very little stopping.

Boat Tour of the Napali Coast

The tour of the Napali coast was breathtaking. We lunched aboard the catamaran and spent a wonderful five hours out on the ocean. Our Tour included snorkeling at the base of the Napali cliffs. We had constant dolphin visitors. Their gracefulness as they swam through the water was majestic. The cliffs held an intrigue all their own. There were several hosted structures that could be construed as statues. The cliffs also hosted many waterfalls. I could have stayed all day with the breeze on my face to the dolphins and the multicolored fish.

Na'pali catamaran trip

What a trip! For 5 and a half hours we traveld up the Na'pali coast. We saw whales and dolphins as well as one sea turtle. The crew was great to stop and observe as we saw the various ocean life.

The cruise in this 55' boat was great. We saw places where movies had been filmed and many beautiful views of the rugged coast. On the way back we had a great lunch prepared by Gaylords and we stopped for snorkeling. This is a great adventure and way to see the Na'pali coastline.

Na Pali Coast III - Kaua'i

On this 2002 trip, we were favored by a Kona wind that quieted the normally choppy winter seas on the North Shore. Sunny skies and a whale sighting added to the adventure of this spectacular shoreline. This is the area featured in a number of movies, including King Kong. One of the photos shows that beach with its natural bridge in the background.

Na Pali Coast II - Kaua'i

This entry is mainly a way to show photos. On a catamaran voyage, we sailed from Port Allen on a calm but overcast March day, which resulted in dull colors in the pictures. Too bad since the scenery is spectacular. And it probably didn't help that these film camera photos were converted to digital years ago. On the way, we saw sea turtles swimming far offshore.
