I have visited most museums in Lima and Museo Larco was the most interesting of them all...
The storages are open to the public (I have never seen that before) and it is just one of the most unbelievable experiences ever - there are over 50,000 objects ready for you to discover. We hired a guided tour (in english)at the door and was really helpful.
Try the Cafe del Museo, really good food at excellent prices...

Must See Museo Larco!

I'm not much of a museum person, so when i heard all the hype about MUSEO LARCO i was skeptical. To my surprise, the hype is right!

The museum is awesome! By far the most interesting place i've visited in Lima. Of all the things to do in this enormous city, I highly recommend a visit to the MUSEO LARCO.

You dont want to miss seeing their collection of gold, silver, textiles, and erotic pottery!

They also have one of the top retaurants on site, Cafe del Museo. It was recently acknowledged as one of Lima's nicest spaces and restaurants. If your not hungry, it's worth grabbing a beer here and enjoying the beautiful gardens and clean bathrooms.

Dont miss it!

Perfect day in Peru!

Perfect day in Peru!

You will probably get to Peru thinking that you will learn everything about the Inca Culture travelling to Cusco and Machu Picchu, but if you don´t get a good brief about all precolumbian cultures at Museo Larco, you will never learn that incas lived only 200 hundred years before the Spanish came to Peru.
Peru is so much more! For me Larco Museum was an eyeopener and a must see experience in Lima. Located in a stunning colonial house on top of a precolumbian pyramid, sorrounded by one of the most beautiful gardens I have ever seen, the collection held inside is just impressive.
It´s all labeled in english and you can get really good guided tours for around $6 at the door. You should not miss it!

Museo Larco or Larco Museum

The museum is a privately-owned museum still run by the family of the founder archaeologist Rafael Larco Hoyle. It boasts approximately 45,000 pre-Columbian pieces including gold, ceramic, and textiles.

The erotic gallery is a must-see! It's full of ancient ceramics in sexual positions. It had a profound effect on me. I couldn't believe the intricacy and knowledge these pre-Columbian cultures had.
