Description
The Tribunal del Santo Oficio (Tribunal of the Holy Office) was housed here during the time of the Viceroyalty. The tunnels, secret rooms, torture chambers and underground prisons that held the persecuted, are testimonials to that period of Catholic history known as the Inquisition.
The son of a Spanish conquistador, Nicolás de Rivera, originally owned this property in the 17th century. The chapel is well worth seeing for its ornate ceiling.
