Description
Israel's annual memorial day for its fallen soldiers is observed on 2 Iyyar (in May), the day before Independence Day. Official ceremonies take place in this cemetery.
Here are buried many of Israel's leaders, including its assassinated Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin (1922-1995), whose memorial symbolises the search for peace. Special monuments honour Jews who fought with the British Army and the Red Army during World War II, seamen of the Dakkar submarine, those who fell in Israel's War of Independence, and other specially recognised groups. Note that the cemetery is open at all times except for special memorial services for family members only.
