Description
This statue, made in bronze and granite, is the work of the Spanish sculptor Victorio Macho. It was inaugurated on 28 October 1946 by the president of the Republic Manuel Prado. Peru's great admiral, Miguel Grau, was born in Piura in 27 July 1834
and died in Angamos on 8 October 1879 in the war against Chile on board the Huáscar.
Every year Peru's navy and other
institutions pay homage at this site, laying floral wreaths to this naval hero.
