Montpelier

Description

James Madison, fourth president of the United States, inherited this home, built around 1760, from his father. With help from his good friend Thomas Jefferson, Madison expanded the original two-story Georgian structure into a grand plantation home with an unobstructed view of the Blue Ridge mountains. Visitors are welcome to spend the day exploring the house, farm, gardens and woodlands.

Montpelier is about 90 miles from Richmond. Take I-64 west to Route 15 north to Orange.

Admission: Adults $7.50; $6.50 Seniors; $3.50 Children 6-11.
