Monte Igueldo

Just behind the Tennis Club (near the Peine de los Vientos sculptures) you can take the funicular train up to Monte Igueldo, for more great vistas of the sea and the town. At the top, there's an observation area (with pay-to-see binoculars) a hotel, and a small amusement park with some kiddie rides, which was closed when I went. There are also some restaurants at the top of the mountain, but if you want good food, I suggest you stray from the observation area and find one of the hole-in-the-wall places as the food at the observation area resembles museum-café food at museum prices. I was allowed (for a nominal fee) to take the bicycle I had rented on the funicular, so I was able to enjoy coasting down the mountain back into town - a cyclist's treat! Of course, with all the tapas I was eating, it would have been better for me to ride up the mountain as well, but hey, I was on vacation!
