Molly Brown House

Precious is the first word that comes to mind when I think of my 45-minute tour at the Molly Brown House. It's about $7.50 to take the tour, but it was worth it in my opinion. It's not the best in the world, but it was certainly educating, relaxing, and if you're a Titanic buff like I am, a must-see. Majority of the tour was about Molly Brown's younger days and how she got into money. There's a small Titanic memorial on the second-floor where you can see pictures of her and many others aboard the Titanic and lifeboats. The tour guide then talks about what she did on Lifeboat 6 that night and how her outlook on life changed when she came to America. In their gift shop around the back, you can purchase things about the Titanic. Including a White Star Line T-shirt! Wow! It’s not something you see every day, that's for sure! Overall, I give Molly Brown's House 3 stars out of 5.

Molly Brown House Museum

The Molly Brown house Museum was one of the homes of Margerat "Molly" Brown, famed heroine and survivor of the Titanic. The home offers a fascinating glimpse of Victorian life in Denver during the heyday of the Browns. The house has been lovingly restored to its origins by the historical society. There are daily tours conducted by an experienced guide with lively commentaries offering a glimpse into the life of a typical day of the Brown's family. Sadly, no photo taking is allowed inside the house.

Molly Brown House

Molly Brown shook the Leadville miners’ dust off her feet when she came to Denver to live in the fashionable Capitol Hill neighborhood. Her efforts to become a part of Denver’s high society were unsuccessful, however, until her life took a surprising turn after the sinking of the "Titanic."

This movie has created new interest in the Molly Brown House museum in Denver, according to the curator of museum. The Victorian house museum, which J.J Brown (the strike-it-rich gold miner) and his wife occupied, has been restored to its original grandeur to showcase her eclectic tastes. Photographs that the Brown’s had taken of the interior of the house were used as a guide. Original colors were determined by examining small microscopic chips of old paint. Even a piece of the original wallpaper was found and reproduced in Europe.

The city of Denver designated a four-block area near East 12th and Pennsylvania Street (which includes the historic Molly Brown house) as the Pennsylvania Street Historic District. Despite the diverse architectural styles and age, 53 buildings from 1040 to 1460 Pennsylvania remain in this district.

Whether or not you are a Titanic movie fan, a visit to the Molly’s "House of the Lions" will reveal much about her lifestyle and tastes.

The Molly Brown House

Remember the "unsinkable Molly Brown" from the Titanic. Well she really existed and you can see her house and hear the stories in Denver. Together with her miner husband J.J., Maggie Brown struck it rich and joined the Denver social elite. Her life was constantly surrounded by myths, which she encouraged.

At the Molly Brown House you can hear the stories while you tour her restored Victorian mansion. The staff is very avid about Maggie's life, and will give you an excellent perspective of life in Denver in Victorian times.

The museum is located in Capitol Hill which is a good walk from the downtown area. There are numerous coffee houses, shops and restaurants in the historic residential area. If it is like most day, enjoy a nice walk through the neighborhood, take the museum tour, and relax for a coffee or bite to eat. While eating you can swap your favorite "Molly Brown" story or make up a new one.
