Everyone has heard of many of the artists represented such as Picasso and Rodin. I'm not exactly an art expert, but I was particularly impressed by the work of the artists I did not know much about prior to going to the museum. To me that was the strength of the exhibits. . . I walked away knowing much more about Spanish art and artists. Renowned artists like Francisco de Goya, Vicente Lopez, Bartolome Murillo and many others have multiple pieces displayed that will help you gain a real appreciation for their genius.
I really enjoyed the focus of the exhibits and felt I learned a lot more than if the museum had tried to compete with larger, more comprehensive museums. Plus, the atmosphere of the museum really added to the experience. I particularly enjoyed the sculpture garden and the fact that the museum is integrated into the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU. It makes the museum feel more substantial and alive.
After your museum tour, take a little time to enjoy the scenery on the SMU campus. It is a beautiful campus in and of its own right.
