There is no better place to see a sunrise! It will be tough, but drag yourself out of bed in the morning and do it. It will be one of the best things about your trip. And besides, if you are from the mainland U.S., the time change makes you feel like it is lunchtime anyway!

The trip down provides neat stops and out-of-the-way lunch spots and sights. There is a cool church near the end of the route, Makawao Union. It is an old stone church that is super cool. The pineapple plantations are hard to believe. They are so large, you wonder how they can ever pick them. Did you know that pineapple heads only produce a fruit every two years. . .neat, huh? The beach will come at just the right time, so don't forget to pack or wear your swimsuit as your bottom layer so you can dive in at the end of your trip to cool off.

You'll get a neat certificate for completing the trip and they will stop for photos several times during the ride down.

Maui Downhill

This is a trip you'll never forget. From the top of the island to the sea, with all the sites in between. Kids will go crazy. I hadn't been on a bike in a long time, so I was pretty nervous, but the leader took care of me, watched me like a hawk. My companion was a long-distance rider of some experience and he loved it too. Plenty of opportunities to go 60 mph down the mountain, but you can also go slow and not feel like a dork. Enjoy.

This was a truely awsome experience. You cycle down the side of a volcano at 30 mph. The turns are the worst part - you have to navigate 30 hairpin turns in about 5 miles. When you get to the bottom you're really amazed at how high you started out.

The say it is for the beginner, but it is INTENSE. You get up at 4 in the am, picked up by a van and it is FREEZING! You are given a quickie bike lesson and suited up for the adventure ahead. You watch the sun rise, certain that it may be your last. In the very place, where STAR WARS was filmed, you breathe deeply, impressed with the fantastic view. With hairpin views straight down to the sea, I focused on the guide.

A van followed and communicated to the guide regarding the traffic by walkie-talkie, so when you were ready to call a halt to the whole thing, the procession would stop and you could continue your ride down in the van. But I was determined. I braked my way down the volcano, much to the chagrin of the adrenalan addicted bikers behind me. I finally convinced the guide to put me in the back where I could go at a slower pace and not risk the hatred of my fellow bikers. We stopped for a pre-ordered breakfast(inclusive) which was delightful. Then it was onward, but at a relaxed pace, which was enjoyable. I noticed my fingers were not gripping the handlebars as much, I was relaxing and FINALLY REALLY ENJOYING MYSELF. I HAD to buy myself the tee-shirt AND the poster to prove I REALLY HAD DONE IT!

They pick you up from your hotel. Take you to the top of Mt Haleakula (dormant volcano). It is about an 1 1/2 trip to the top. Then bikes, windsuits, helmets are given out and everyone starts downhill. A van follows behind the group. Lunch is provided about 3/4 downhill. It even include a trip at the bottom through a pineapple field and a Eucalyptus Forest.
