Description
Fireworks, dragon dances and parties mark the celebration of this New Year festival, which occurs in January or February depending on the lunar cycle. Many Vientiane businesses invite dragon dancers to perform for them for the purpose of good luck, so it is not unusual to see these elaborately costumed dance troupes winding their way through the streets to the beat of loud drums. Local people take offerings to Chinese and Vietnamese temples and many Chinese or Vietnamese-owned businesses are closed for a few days.
