A Castle Built for Kings

Ludlow castle

Ludlow the small market town with an old English castle that housed a prince that died before he could become a king.
Situated in Shropshire just a few miles from the Welsh border Ludlow is a small market town, in the summer months the streets are thronged with tourists and locals buying goods from the small street market that is ancient as the town itself.

The main attraction is the castle built in 1086 it was the home of the eldest son of King Henry V11 Prince Arthur who was being groomed to take over the throne of England from his father died at this castle, thus altering the history of England forever. When Arthur died his brother Prince Henry become heir to the throne, he became King Henry V111 who founded the Church of England thus breaking England from the Church of Rome.

As you walk the streets of Ludlow, you can marvel at the architecture of the many medieval buildings many have blue plates on the outside of them telling the visitor who lived in them from the past.

The castle houses the only Norman chapel in England now in ruins it still gives the impression of a bygone era. So to does the rest of the castle as you walk the walls and walk the many rooms you can if you close your eyes and block out all the chatter from the rest of the tourists hear and see medieval ghosts.

The many eating establishments that abound this small town are wonderful the De Gray tearooms are famous through out the area for the variety of cakes and scones. One more tearoom is in the castle grounds where you can sit indoors or on a pleasant sunny day sit out side taking in the castle atmosphere. As you walk the walls of the castle, you can see in front of you the surrounding area and the town and church, you will be amazed at the pleasant English scenery that unfolds before you very eyes. In the far, distant you can see the Welsh marches that the castle was built for to stop the invading welsh.

There is plenty of accommodation from the bed and breakfast accommodation to the elegant four and five star hotels.

The surrounding area is pleasant with many more small towns and villages. The large cosmopolitan city of Birmingham is just a short drive away and the birthplace of the industrial revolution Ironbridge is just a short car ride away.

Ludlow is a place that no tourist from any part of the world should miss when visiting England. It will give the person a true colure of England.
