Lincoln Park Zoo

This is an amazing place because it is this beautiful park space right in the heart of the city. You can look to one side and see Lake Shore Drive busy with cars, and look another direction and see the highrises of the cityscape. Yet in the center of it all is this quiet and quaint zoo with a variety of animals and picnic areas. I saw an old man feeding peanuts to the squirrels. You could tell it was his regular routine, and it just made me smile for no particular reason. That is how it feels to be in Lincoln Park Zoo.

Lincoln Park Zoo is probably one of only a few fee zoos in the nation. It is lovely. See all the classic zoo animals like giraffes, elephants, lions. The Ape House is great and there is an aviary for bird lovers. For Christmas there is a zoo lights festival and visitors can wander among festive animal themed decorative light configurations as well as see the real animals.

In the summer, there is a monthly "Jammin' at the Zoo" with national and regional acts like Sonia Dada, Richard Thompson, Joan Osborne with Double Trouble. This appears to be geared for the 20 to 30 somethings.

Parking is $8 in the zoo lot.
