Description
The first Gay Pride event in Britain took place in the early 1970s, as a way to mark the riots which erupted in June 1969 at New York's Stonewall Inn in protest at police harassment of gay people. Since the very first march, which only attracted a few hundred participants, the annual Lesbian and Gay Pride event (recently renamed Lesbian and Gay Mardi Gras even if it doesn't take place around the real Mardi Gras in February) has blossomed into a massive annual parade through the streets of central London, celebrating the diversity and strength of the lesbian and gay community.
