Menara K L Tower

We wanted to go to a viewpoint where we could get a good panoramic of the city, and especially the Petronas Twin Towers. I had read that the KL Tower was a good place to see the city skyline. We walked from our hostel in the Golden Triangle to the bottom of the hill where the KL Tower stood. There is a free van that takes tourists from the bottom of the hill and up to the top. I would not suggest walking as the hill was quite steep and it seemed like a long walk up (especially in hot, humid weather). The van deposits you right at the main entrance where you can easily buy tickets. After passing through security, you are herded into an elevator and are brought up to the viewing platform. There, you are given a headset that explains in great detail what you are looking at. All the windows are numbered and the headset takes a few minutes at each window explaining what you can see. It is a good place to get your bearings and the view would be great on a bright, sunny day. The day we went was a little smoggy/cloudy so our pictures did not turn out as we hoped. But this is a great place to go is you want an unobstructed view of the Petronas Twin Towers. Also located at the Menara KL Tower are a bunch of quick foodstands, a few gift shops, restrooms, and an AJ Hackett bungy ride.

Menara K L Tower

Menara Kl Tower looks much like the Seattle Space Needle and the Stratosphere in Vegas. KL Tower also has a rotating restaurant on top, but the tower’s main function is to provide the nation with a telecommunications and broadcasting tower. KL Tower is one of the tallest concrete towers in the world at 421 meters and is also the fourth tallest telecommunications tower in the world.

The view at the top is amazing to say the least. You can purchase a ticket up to the observation deck for about 15 ringgit (about $4). I was with a group, and we had the privilege of having lunch at the top. There was a HUGE buffet, and I do mean huge. There were several buffet stations with both Western and Asian dishes. The restaurant revolves ever so slowly, and you’ll pass by The Petronas Towers a couple times during your meal. The restaurant is open to the public, but it is a bit pricey. At the bottom of the tower is a food court, as well as souvenir shopping. A reflecting pool and fountain are also at the base. There area GREAT picture-taking opportunities at both the top and bottom.

In addition to the above, the shopping mall on the lower floors is huge and contains quite a few restaurants with different cuisines. Thus, it's easy to spend a full day visiting the Petronaz Towers and the KL Tower.

Commuting to these has also become convenient now due to train stations being just outside the Petronaz towers.
