This run is wonderful because it takes you on a tour through the parts of west Vancouver that make it so special and unique. It starts at the popular Kits Beach area with its huge public pool, beach volleyball courts, tennis courts, and nice grassy areas where you hang out if you aren't in the mood to get sandy. There are plenty of sunbathers, readers, and hacky-sack hackers enjoying the grass and the beach. I even saw a boxing demonstration there one day. You can also admire the views of the mountain peaks and the lush forest island of Stanley Park across the bay.
The run takes you by the Maritime Museum, Granville Island (and its amazing farmer's market), boat landings, and the nice apartment complexes along False Creek. If you stop at Granville Island, you can have a delicious lunch there in the market accompanied by some fresh B.C. fruits like blueberries, cherries, and strawberries. You can also find everything from pierogies to sushi to smoked salmon sticks in the food court there. Granville Island is only about one mile away from Kits Beach.
It's not just runners who enjoy this area, but people going for walks with their dogs and folks taking a nice bike ride. After your run, you can enjoy sitting in the grass and taking in the sunset and scenery, or go for a coffee at the many cafes and coffee shops just across the street from the beach area.
I love Kits beach so much that I even made a Vancouver Kitsilano Beach Video that I recently made. It will give you a nice idea of the beach in the summer!
