Description
Fifteen days after Bonn PChum Ben (The Festival of the Dead) and for 29 days at pagodas around the country, visitors will see large processions following men with traditional chhai-yam drums. This is Kathen, the festival of giving new monk's robes. Monks are sequestered in their pagodas during wet season, after which they are traditionally offered new robes by followers. Money is also collected. Each pagoda holds one Kathen, which lasts two days and a night, when a range of traditional entertainment and theatre is often held at the pagoda. This is a lunar festival, usually falling between mid-October and November.
