Start off with a short film (free) that is shown in the visitors center "Jambalaya, A Delta Almanac". It's about 20-30 minutes long with great music (you will learn to love Zydeco), and a wonderful short history of the area. Take a stroll on the boardwalk. It leads you from the swamp to the marsh--the guide or the ample brochures in the visitors center as well as the signs along the boardwalk will tell the you what the difference is. There are also plenty of hiking trails that you can explore on your own. Apparently this area is considered to be the subtropics and you will see why. If I were to use just one word to describe this park, it'd be green, since everything is including the water.
