Description: Leaving the pool area of Manele Bay Hotel, which is up on the cliff side, we walked down the beach access path to Hulopo'e Bay. Flowers abounded the walkway, with birds singing and brown birds with white bottoms flying by us and soaring down into the beach. At the beach entrance, the hotel provided beach towels, comfortable beach chairs, and tables. Surfboards could be rented, along with snorkel gear. Bathrooms and changing houses were provided. At some points during the day, we were the only people on the beach. Walking at the surf’s edge was fun. I ventured out into the waves, which were too strong for me, and got knocked over. It was fun! Once past the waves, you can snorkel over to the tidal pool on the left-hand side of the beach, or you can walk the beach and hike the small cliff to the staircase entrance to the tidal pool.
The tidal pool enables people of all ages to observe marine life up close without getting wet, providing hours of entertainment and enjoyment. A tidal pool is a pocket of seawater isolated by the outgoing tide. Each pool contains its own community of residents adapted to the environment conditions unique to it. The pools also offer a special environment as a nursery for baby or juvenile fish of certain species living in the adjacent bay. These juvenile fish live and grow here until they are ready to return to the sea as adults.
The morning we spent on the beach, spinner dolphins arrived and played with the snorkelers. Everyone seemed to have a good time swimming as fast as they could, attempting to keep up with the dolphins.
