Heiliggeistkirche

Description

At the dawning of the 20th century, the Gundeldinger district, south of the main station, finally got a large church of its own. The complex structure of church, vicarage, vaulted columned hall and inner courtyard, with its many trees, creates an imposing skyline.

This protestant place of worship comprises a three-naved basilica with a mighty side tower. Its influences most probably come from the late-gothic designs widely observed in the German territories in times of old. Most of the new-gothic elements seem to have remained unspoilt. Indeed there are also signs that the stonemasons responsible for this structure also held the building customs of Switzerland's northern neighbours in high regard.
