If you are into the Olympics, or just want to walk on a piece of history, a day trip to Sydney Olympic Park is for you. Just a short hop (about 15 minutes) from Central Rail Station on a train will bring you directly to the site. Train tickets are about AUD$4 for a return ticket.
Once at Olympic Park, you have many options to see the facilities. There is a tour of the Stadium, a walking tour of the grounds, or you can choose to walk it yourself or rent a bike and peddle around the area! I would suggest a walking tour, as that is what I did, and it provides a great opportunity to see the buildings and have someone explain to you what they are. If you plan to explore yourself, I would suggest renting a bike as the area is quite large, and cycling would provide be the quickest way to try and see everything.Other fun things to do at the Olympic Village would be to take a dip in the actual Olympic pool (AUD$5), or running under the torch cauldron (free!).
With its close proximity to the city, a visit to the Sydney Olympic Center is a MUST for anyone with the time - and if you don't have the time, make it! It is also a great family activity.
