Walking the Inner Harbor

Nothing beats the excitement and energy at the Inner Harbor on a calm, cool summer evening. We visited on a Saturday evening and found the area teeming with people. Some were walking around the beautiful fountain, some were listening to the wonderful band, and others were eating at one of the many fine restuarants. Some still were just walking around, enjoying the water. We ate dinner outside (it was perfect, listening to the music and seeing the water), walked around the aquarium and on a walkway that overlooks the water, had some ice cream, and just enjoyed ourselves. Plenty of people around to make you feel safe and comfortable, but not so many that you felt crowded. Fun times for the entire family, and we highly recommend spending a night of your vacation here!

Here we go again - for those of you who just can't imagine spending any part of a holiday away from the stores, this is your chance to indulge. There are over 100 stores, specialty and local artisians displaying their wares. It is close enough to the rest of the local Harbor scene that you scarcely miss a beat when you visit. Maybe you'll miss a little cash, but think of the satisfaction in being able to take it home with you. A physical reminder of your wonderful excursion to Baltimore. Some of the stores include Ann Taylor, skin care, accessories, leather, Victoria's secret, to name a few. There are also many choices of eateries, for full meals or just a snack, or when you need to get off your feet and rest. Check it out.

While Harborplace does feature your average department store shopping -- like the Gap, Banana Republic, etc. -- it's the specialty stores that really grab your interest. There are lots of places to purchase that Baltimore t-shirt, or that Orioles pennant before you go to the game. And the specialty food stores can help you add a few pounds if you're not careful. My favorite is The Fudgery. I'm not sure of the schedule, but the workers at the fudgery put on a little show every so often as they work to make the fudge. Then, they'll give opportunities for special deals, like buy 3 get two free. And don't pass up any free samples, though once you taste, you'll want more. There are actually three separate buildings, The Gallery, Pratt Street Pavilion, and Light Street Pavilion. There are tons of restaurants in each building (see entry for Tex Mex Grill) and include a Cheescake Factory (yum), Phillips Seafod Buffet (and if you're a fan of the seafood, you'll have found your heaven), Capitol City Brewing Company, and 50s style Johnny Rockets. There are also your typical mall rat food shops, like Subway, Starbucks, a pizza place, etc. Just know that if it's a nice day, it'll be packed with people.
