Description: Just off the southeast coast of Oahu is the Hanauma Bay Marine Preserve. “Hana” means Bay, and “Uma” means curve - a name perfectly applicable for this bay formed in an ancient volcanic cone. The reserve is one of the most popular spots in Hawaii, drawing around 3,000 visitors a day to its gorgeous white sands and turquoise waters chocked with tropical fish and other coral reef wildlife. Snorkeling is excellent in these shallow, calm waters, though be careful not to touch or walk on any of the coral, as the reserve is protected under law. Keep your eyes peeled for the Green Sea Turtles that frequent the bay, often laying their eggs along the shore.
