This is a regular spot for us, whenever we want a peaceful walk in the woods that feels like we're far away from home.
If you’re in southeastern Connecticut and looking for easy-to-moderate hikes, take a drive over some twisty New England roads to the Devil’s Hopyard, where you’ll find streams, a small waterfall, and a covered bridge, in addition to the campgrounds, trails and picnic grounds. This is also an ideal site for an outdoor family reunion: there are dozens of picnic tables, including twelve that are under a roof; an outhouse and many small grills. There is camping at 21 sites April through September.
The trails are all moderate at most; ascents are gradual and provide views of the woods.
Leashed dogs are allowed, as is alcohol, but kegs are prohibited.
