Description
This beach is also called Kahalepalaoa: the shortened version of the name translates to whale house, while the longer version translates to whale ivory house. In the old days, the Maunalei Sugar Plantation shipped sugar cane from a wharf located onsite, but today only the ruins of the wharf remain. Although the beach is bordered by detritus sand, the area to one side of the old wharf has white sand. Decent swimming can be found inside the reef during the summer. This area is accessible by 4x4 vehicle only, weather permitting.
