I first discovered Angel Tours while preparing for visit to Rome in 2007.
I was steered to them by a good review on TripAdvisor.
This is a group of Irish history students who now live and work in Rome. They are very knowledgeable, native English speakers and are all trained and educated in history and the History of Art.
In preparing for my trip, I communicated with them from Boston by email to arrange my tours. I found them to be very helpful and always responsive. In addition, the prices were very reasonable.They still are.
When I first met up with them in Rome, I was pleased and impressed by their knowledge as well as the discovery that the Angels are historians with a sense of humor.
The tours were relaxed paced walking tours of small groups of 8 -15 people. Some groups were even smaller.
This methodical, yet casual pace was the same either at the Vatican Museums or at the Colliseum or the Roman Forum. The tours were both informative and enjoyable with a humorous Irish quip or two for good measure.
On my return to Rome in October 2008, I made certain to again book a couple of tours with them. I was very pleased I did.
The Angels also offer free tours such as a tour of the Pantheon every evening in the high season at 7:00. Their website advertises that there will be more free tours and to keep checking the site to get updates.
Private tours are can also be arranged.
