Wanha Kaarle - An Aladdin's Cave of Arabia and More

We discovered this gem of a shop by chance while strolling in the Kallio district of Helsinki. This shop is crammed from floor to ceiling with wonderful things - mostly colourful Arabia ware, a kitchenware that is still made to this day at a nearby factory but which was especially popular in the 1960s and 70s. The factory opened in 1873 and was orginally owned by a Swedish firm.

The wares are colourful and cheerful with simple patterns nd stylised designs. You can see examples of almost every kind of goods the factory made right here in this store. Choosing just one thing to buy will be a nightmare! As well as the ceramic goods there are colourful pots and pans as well as lamp shades, childrens' toys, glassware and more. Everywhere you look you spot another wonderful item you want to take home. The owners are friendly and of course very knowledgable and will tell you the history of the different items.

Even if you aren't spending it's worth walking round to this shop; I am sure it will put a smile on your face.
