Mission San Jose

Mission San Jose is located a few miles off the freeway which makes it a great detour while driving down 680.

The mission complex itself has a few distinct parts. There is the original west wing when the museum is now housed, the adobe church that is a reconstruction, and a graveyard.

Museum: To enter the museum there is a charge of $3 for adults and $2 for students. You must pay cash! They don't accept credit cards or checks (although the gift shop does and their website says otherwise). You may walk through the historic relics and through the mission building at your own pace. Be aware that over 10,000 4th graders visit the mission each year as part of their studies on the history of California so you might want to call before visiting. While the collection of items isn't huge, the fact that you are in an original mission building more than makes up for it.

Adobe church: The church is open to all, while we were there people came in to worship and pray, this is an active church. Mass is held at Monday-Friday at 8am, Saturday at 5:30pm, Sunday at 7:30am, 9am, 11am, 12:30pm, 4pm (in Mandarin), and 6:30pm (Youth Mass).

Graveyard: The graveyard is located between the parking lot and the adobe church. There are paths laid out that let you walk by some of the stones.

Open daily, 10-5, closed New Year's, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Phone: 510-657-1797

Important notes:
Parking is available in the church's lot or across the street.
There is no flash photography allowed.
