Beautiful Exotic Orchids

This is a wonderful place to visit if you are interested in different types of orchids. The owner, Mr. Moriyasu Akatsuka grows about 50 - 70 orchid hybrids. He won't know for at least 3 - 6 years if his hybrids will bloom, and if they do, will they produce the orchid he is looking for. Mr. Akatsuka's hybrids are so well known in the orchid world, that wholesalers and enthusiasts alike happily buy his plants before they bloom. Akatsuka Gardens is a family business and the majority of sales are in the retail and a smaller percentage in wholesale. Akatsuka Orchid Gardens feature the largest collection of orchids and exotic tropicals in Hawaii. You can purchase orchids and take them home with you or you can have them ship them anywhere in the world. There is a large greenhouse that houses hybrid orchids that are on display. They also have a nice gift store to purchase unique items to give as gifts to family and friends. The gift store sells many orchid themed items such as magnets, calendars, t-shirts, socks, beauty products, and soap flowers. Akatsuka Orchid Gardens is located 1/2 mile past the 22 mile marker on highway 11 on the way to Volcano Village from Hilo. They are open daily from 8:30 am - 5:00 p.m. I would recommend stopping at this unique garden (on your way to Hawaii National Volcanoes Park) if you are interested in orchids.
