Description: Wow! This was definately the highlight of our Las Vegas trip.
The trip started with a van picking us up at our hotel. They dropped us off at the office where we paid, signed our waivers, had our ID checked, and were weighed. Yes, we were weighed. According to their website currently if you weigh over 300lbs you have to pay for 2 seats. Different companies have different weight and payment policies, so if you are 250 or over ensure you check with whatever company you are flying with.
They also weigh you because each helicopter has a passenger weight limit. The helicopter seats 7 and the pilot. If you have a large group they will allot you depending on weight.
The pilot also decides where everyone will sit, as size matters.
Once you are already to go, the pilot takes you to the helicopter where he goes over the safety instructions. They also take a group picture of you that you can purchase later.
Then you are off! Flying in a helicopter is exciting in itself. On the Grand Canyon tour you get a great view of Lake Las Vegas, Lake Mead, you can see Hoover Dam in the distance, the Bowl of Fire, and downtown Las Vegas on the way back to the city. We took the 3.5 hour flight that landed in the Grand Canyon for the light lunch and champagne. There is time to enjoy the view and take pictures. We used this opportunity to get our picture taken by the helicopter with just the two of us. Note that while you are in the Grand Canyon there is no bathroom, so make sure you go before you leave the airport. There is also no smoking so bring your nicotine gum or lozenge if you require.
The pilot was excellent. Not only does he fly, but he gives an excellent narration of what you are seeing and answers any questions you may have. He was extremely patient with the people in our group who did not speak English.
We purchased the DVD that was taken on our trip. Unfortunately the colors on the screen aren't as good as in real life. The DVD does include sound - so everything that you say while you are in the helicopter is on the DVD(they do warn you ahead of time). The excellent part about this is that it includes what the pilot tells you while you are flying - which is helpful so that you remember the sights along the way.
For reservations you can see their website or phone them at 1-888-261-4414. They have an excellent cancellation policy so that you only have to give them 24 hours notice. We just phoned the morning we wanted to go to book our flight.
If you can afford it (our trip was about $450 each)I definitely recommend to go on at least one helicopter trip. The views on the Grand Canyon tour are spectacular.
