Visit the Dijon Cathedral

Since we like the mustard so much and we were in the area, we decided to make a short visit to the city of Dijon. We were driving up from Beaune, and the drive through the heart of Burgundy's wine-producing region, alongside the rich vineyards, was a very pleasant start to the trip.

Arriving at Dijon, we followed the signs to the city center. We went to Dijon on a Sunday morning, and there really wasn't much going on that day. We decided to visit the Dijon cathedral, Cathédrale Saint-Bénigne de Dijon. The original church on the site was a basilica built over the sarcophagus of Saint Benignus, the patron saint of the cathedral. The current gothic cathedral was built around the year 1300. It is a fairly small gothic cathedral, but features beautiful stained glass windows illustrating scenes from bible stories, and some interesting gargoyles on the exterior.
