Local Secrets, Big Finds 2007 Pick

Somehow, a 100-year-old Swedish steam engine feels right at home in Canada’s Gatineau Hills, (slowly) whisking riders on unforgettable excursions from Gatineau to quaint Wakefield and back. One of the most popular rides is the Sunset Dinner Train, where "magnificent views of the river" compete only with the "excellent food cooked onboard." The train is manually turned around in Wakefield on a charming "old turntable" for the trip back, with "musicians entertaining passengers" the whole way. It’s a "nice, romantic adventure" reminiscent of train travel’s luxurious heyday.
