The seaside hamlet of Pictou is "just a small town, but once a year it is packed with fun." Each July, the Lobster Carnival marks the end of fishing season with heaping servings of maritime culture—and the catch of the day. Residents "look forward to this every year" because it allows them to introduce lucky visitors to their small town with the big nickname (nothing less than the "Birthplace of New Scotland"). Among the "many activities for the whole family" are rides, musical performances, boat races, a beer garden, parades, and an antique car show.
