Good Skiing Fun

Although I've only been to Sugarbush once for snowboarding, I can definitely say that it is one of the better places to go in Vermont.

Even though it's not quite as large as Killington or Okemo, it still has many trails that are quite fun to ride on. There is even one with some trees in the middle of a trail! And it was a blast to carve through it.

I cannot wait to go back some day.

Local Secrets, Big Finds 2007 Pick

Almost as much a springtime tradition as slugging through mud season, Sugarbush Mountain Resort hosts its annual Pond Skimming and Reggae Fest on April Fool's Day. Signaling that spring is around the corner, this festival, going for 40 years strong, is a chance to "soak up the sun, watch, or jump in on the action." Contestants dress up in "wacky costumes" and try to "straight-line a slope over (and often into) the pond on skis or snowboard." Each performance is judged and prizes are awarded. One could win anything from Best Skier/Rider to Best Costume to Best Crash 'n' Splash. Nearby Nectar's provides live reggae and there's a "blow-out barbecue." All of this is just three hours from Boston and about five from New York City.
