Local Secrets, Big Finds 2007 Pick

  • March 18, 2008
  • Rated 5 of 5 by Local Secrets from New York, New York
Thought to be the "largest market of its kind," Trade Days began in the 1850s when the town judge held public court proceedings on the first Monday of the month. Curiosity struck locals, who converged in the town square "to stock their pantries and observe the trials." Back then, homemade goods, produce and livestock were most frequently traded, but now the enormous open-air market houses more than 3,000 vendors, selling everything from antiques and collectibles to jewelry and tools. Editor’s Tip: Don’t show up on the first Monday--the market is now held Friday through Sunday.
