I needed to be in Athens for the full 2 weeks of the Olympics but lodging was so expensive. I decided to get creative and use a week long cruise through some of the islands as a way to "see more" and save on lodging—meals as well. Turns out that was a fantastic idea! The language, time and geographical barrier of planning something like this on my own made it quite difficult, but with the time I spent on the Internet, and savvy traveling experience, I figured everything out!I originally didn't know where to meet the boat and wish I had seen more of Santorini before we departed, but it was a good night in port to meet my bunk mates: a woman with two young boys (French) and 3 Spanish women traveling together as friends. Combined with our captain who was also French, we had a very multi-cultural experience. Fortunately for the "stupid" American, me, I took advantage of the French women, captain and at least one of the Spanish women's knowledge of English. With some translation help, we all knew the gist of what was going on by the end of a conversation! We saw five islands in total, saved on food expenses by eating in the harbor restaurants (more authentic), in family style meals, shared by our "sister" boat which had a group of six friends, also from France, I believe. We took trips to the main city on each island, so we had a perfect blend of enjoying the ocean, seeing the touristy areas of several popular Greek islands, and relaxing on board.I have some pictures… I'll add to this later.
