The USS Midway is an aircraft carrier that was decommissioned over 15 years ago. It is now a floating museum in San Diego. It gives visitors an excellent insight on how it was to live and work on the huge ship. The first thing you do after entering is to receive your self-guided audio tour. This tour will bring you descriptions and commentary on about 50 different stops. There are 21 restored aircraft atop the ship on the flight deck. Parking is right next to it on the navy pier. There are several flight simulators as well as a gift shop.
It was neat to take in all that goes on during maritime operation. The tour will take you from the one end of the ship to the other. It may, however, be hard for people with disabilities to navigate it as there are many steep stairways and tight hallways. I would still recommend everyone to check out this museum as they still have sections for handicapped access. The tour will take three to four hours, depending on your pace. I have been there twice and both times were well worth the price.

More of the ship was opened up since my first visit, and it is still being restored. It is a great trip whether you are a military buff or not.
