Loango Lodge

The headquarters in Gabon for the Dutch tour company Operation Loango, the lodge itself consists of individual round bungalows overlooking a massive lagoon complex. Rooms are modern and spotless, with showers, hot water, real beds, and air-conditioning. The grounds are lovely and the views from the restaurant (built on recycled oil platform materials) gorgeous. Sometimes elephants are visible across the lagoon.

Food is excellent, drinks cold. The small gift shop is being expanded. There is a library of books on Gabon and, unlike elsewhere in the country, English is spoken by much of the staff. The lodge is usually reached by a short flight on a small plane to the town of Iguela and thence via a couple of hours in a 4X4 to the lodge.

From the lodge one can go on game drives, go to Loango's bush camps, or visit the local community.
