Snorkeling in St Maarten

I would not recommend this excursion. I was not impressed with the vessel we were on or the instructors we had. The water was cloudy and very rocky. I didn't see any shipwreck. I actually ended up getting motion sickness from swallowing the water and the waves bobbing me up and down. I didn't have the rum punch, but I heard it was very strong and very bad.

Snorkeling on the Sand Dollar

  • May 5, 2004

We enjoyed a short three-hour snorkeling trip aboard the Sand Dollar. Although the diving itself was far from spectacular, it was a very enjoyable afternoon. We enjoyed a beer on the way across Simpson Bay Lagoon, past Marigot, to Creole Rock. The fish and coral weren't that exciting, but it was still worth the money. We then enjoyed some cheese and crackers (and a few more beers) on the way back.

Although not part of the usual package, we did have some excitement heading back to the marina. The captain noticed a boat in the bay that was adrift and about to hit another boat. He motored to it, a few of us grabbed hold of the unmanned boat, and we tugged it an open spot where we were able to anchor it. It was a fun morning and a great story to tell.
