Situated in a prime location within Rocky Mountain National Park, Alberta Falls is the perfect, convenient hike for any traveler to the park, especially families. Right near the popular Bear Lake, you two choices for parking a car; the Bear Lake trailhead or Glacier Gorge trailhead. Expect a mile roundtrip from the Bear Lake trailhead, slightly less from Glacier Gorge. I parked in the Glacier Gorge parking lot and headed off. The trail promptly follows a wide stone gravel pass and briskly crosses a roaring river and then parallels the river for a quarter mile. Bear left at the fork and follow the path. From here, the trail becomes much more interesting. Only a quarter-mile from the fork is my favorite part of the trail- a thicket of bright aspen trees off to the right of the path. A near by rock made it a perfect place to sit and stare into the trees while waiting for slower hikers in my group. Pressing on, you pass yet another roaring river, this time in a deep chasm, the raging waters just out of view. Staring strait out over the gorge, the back-drop of the rockies further add to the beauty of the hike. Finally, in a short stretch up hill, you reach Alberta Falls. The roaring waters cascade over the rocks in Rocky Mountian’s most popular waterfall. From here, many choose just to sit on the rocks, listen to the pounding of the falls, and take in the beauty that is Rocky Mountain National Park.
