Portland Market Closed

Portland Market has been closed for over a year.

A great place but it couldn't compete with the new Whole Foods chain that moved nearby last year.
I live in Maine and miss the PPM.

Portland Public Market

The Portland Public Market is located in a large building with ceilings as high as 45 feet, supported by Douglas Fir beams; the floor is simple gray concrete. The idea is to showcase the food, not the building. Portland has a long history of indoor public markets, and this one, though relatively new, is the cream of the crop. Produce, seafood, and flowers are delivered fresh daily and the smell of fresh baked bread encompasses your nostrils as you stroll through the market. There is something for every taste here. Whether you're a local looking for tonight's special dinner, a tourist who wants to bring home some real blueberry jam for a loved one, a temporary local preparing to bring home a piece of your vacation with some fresh bread and cheese, or just somebody who needs a good lunch, the Portland Public Market is the place to go. To read about the current vendors at the market, you can go to their website, which is very well organized and up-to-date: http://www.portlandmarket.com/.

Portland Public Market

The Portland Public Market is one of the nicest indoor markets I have ever visited. The ceilings are high and when you're inside, you feel like it's a huge shopping mall but with excellent and deliciously tempting products for sale.

Among our purchases were a few bottles of blueberry wine, Maine's specialty wine, from Miranda's Vineyard. We also bought a strawberry and rhubarb pie from Valley View Orchard Pies and iced coffees from Breaking New Grounds. They have several stands with different kinds of spices from all over the world and I was able to buy a jar of preserved lemons from a shelf filled with products from Morocco and the Middle East. We also took home a fresh loaf of rosemary bread from Big Sky Bread that was the perfect accompaniment to the Moroccan tagine I ended up cooking for dinner after our trip to Maine.
