Take some time and read the thought-provoking and sobering inscriptions. I got chills when I read "I Chose to Climb," the inscription on Donald Stephen Williams' grave, and calculated his age to be 17 when he died in 1975 on the Breithorn. My thought instantly turned to my two precious sons at home. Staring at his pick ax, I could only wonder what brought so young a traveler so far from his home in New York City. What made him climb; and, more importantly, what killed him. That's just one story. Each grave has its own to tell.
