Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago is situated in the southern suburbs of Lemont and consists of two separate temples that offers a place to pray, meditate, and reflect on one’s inner self.
The temple is constructed entirely of very intricately carved white marbles. It is a beautiful example of Indian artistry, and craftsmanship. The whole temple is situated between beautifully manicured gardens and lovely trees that create a breathtaking effect in all seasons. Inside there are two separate independent units for worship having many Hindu gods and goddesses. Special prayers are performed during early and evening and it would be a good idea to visit during this time to be able to participate in the same.
The insides of the temple are very neat and clean and well maintained. They have a big coat room available at no cost for you to keep footwear and coats etc. They have a huge auditorium that features a variety of Indian dance and music programs. Some of them are free while for others there may be a nominal fee. They have a small shop for Indian books and lamps and a nice little cafeteria that serves Indian sweet and snacks at very reasonable prices. Most if the entries are priced at less than $5. You can enjoy a cup of Indian tea here for only a dollar.
The temple hosts special programs on majority of Indian festivals that happen to be year round. On the entrance there is a lovely statue of Swami Vivekananda, a great Indian world famous for his philosophy and thinking. The parking is free and is plenty. On festivals, the temple usually rents a parking lot a few miles across and operates free shuttles from there.
