Bird Park

The bird paradise and underwater world. There are a couple of fun animal parks located on the main roads in the middle of the island. These parks are interesting to visit if you have a few hours while you are out. One note about driving on the island--take notes concerning landmarks as you drive. The roads are not well marked and if you make a wrong turn you may drive for a couple of miles before you realize that you are driving down someone's driveway, not the main road! I recommend not staying out after dark the first night. Directions are not easy to come by on this small island unless you are in the middle of town or at your resort.

Back to the Bird Park--the interesting thing about animal parks in Asia is that, unlike the US and other western parks, the animals tend to be much closer to the guests. I am saying that you might be close enough to be bitten, or at least scared out of your pants! If you are naive enough to believe that wild animals can be tamed, this might not always be a good thing, but if you are smart enough to keep a safe distance from otherwise fenced in animals, you will enjoy what feels more like you are up-close and personal with these animals. This is exciting for those of us who are used to being as much as 100 feet away from zoo animals, or on the other side of a thick glass wall. Prepare to leave behind the experience of watching animals on TV (behind a glass wall), and experience animals in the wild--up close.
