Trout Creek Park

A stone throw from I-75, this shaded community river park is along the shore of the Hillsborough River (12550 Morris Bridge Road, Thonotosassa). Trout Creek Park is a part of so-called Wilderness Park, a chain of six parks running along the Hillsborough River which also includes the Dead River, Flatwoods, John B Sargeant, Morris Bridge, and Veterans Memorial Park. For the most part the Hillsborough is what is known as a dark or black water river.

The 34.5 mile designated canoe trail begins at Crystal Springs in Pasco County and terminates in Hillsborough County at the City of Tampa’s Rowlett Park. Trout Creek Park has ramps for boats and canoes. You can rent a canoe here (life jackets are required) but be aware that there are rapids in the some sections of the river and plenty of alligators too. While on your journey, keep your eyes peeled for alligators, turtles and other wildlife. Here you will understand why the Hillsborough River was chosen in 1995 by Canoe & Kayak Magazine as one of "North America's Best Close to Home Paddling Adventures."

With easy access from I-75, fishing sites, a 4 miles walkway connecting the picnic shelter with grill, numerous picnic tables with grills, and benches, boardwalk, the park is also a popular side stop and site for brown bag lunches. Other facilities include restrooms, a large pavilion, picnic shelters, nature trails, and a playground.
This is a park with perfect balance of two things: Recreation and Nature. The natural scenic beauty of the park is astounding. We enjoyed walking along the nature trail meandering from Hillsborough River through oak hammocks.

Did you know that Florida is often referred to as "The Fishing Capital of the World"?
The Trout Creek Park is one of the most popular fishing destinations. While many tourists and visiting fishermen to the Sunshine State choose coastal locations to drop a line, the Hillsborough River area offers some of the most diverse and abundant fishing opportunities in the state.
