Start your morning with breakfast at Slickity Jim's Chat 'N' Chew (2513 Main at Broadway; $5-10). Kitchy junk decor, witty menu, and fabulous eggs benny. Weekends can be busy; if there's a line-up and you don't want to stand and wait, write your name on the list at the counter with the name "Lugz" beside it and head next door for coffee at Lugz--they'll come and get you when your table is ready.
Once you're sated, it's out the door to walk off all that hollandaise. Main Street has lots of shops. Here are a few of my favourites:
- C'est la vie (3247 Main, at 16th): Wonderful consignment store with a nice selection of vintage cocktail dresses and leather jackets. - Smoking Lily (3634 Main, at 20th): Very cool prints (anatomical hearts, antique chairs, flies, Pierre Trudeau ...) on t-shirts, skirts, scarves, even undies. -Eugene Choo (3683 Main at 20th): Designer togs for men and women.
Other fun stuff: - Urban Source (3126 Main at 16th): Art project materials--specialty supplies and an amazing array of unusual manufacturing discards sold in bulk. - Red Corner (4219 Main at 26th): Lovely Chinese antique furniture.
