Sunsets Over Hawaii

  • October 13, 2005

Have you been to Hawaii? I have. Actually, my wife, Deborah, and I have. Well, to be more accurate, this is my second trip. However, the fist time did not count. Why you ask? That was in 1969, for 4 days and only on Oahu. I was stationed at Barbara’s Point, a Naval Air Base, waiting to fly to the Philippines in direct support of the Vietnam War. I did, however, get to see both Honolulu and Waikiki. Of special interest to me at that time, the movie "Tora Tora Tora" was being filmed there.

So, in essence, this is actually the first time for the both of us as genuine tourists. If we don't live there, what else could we be?

We spent two days at the Marriott Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa and 7 days on a cruise aboard NCL's (Norwegian Cruise Line’s) Pride of Aloha. Cruising is not new to us. This was our 13th. Besides, we're the owners and managers of Ship-To-Shore Cruise Agency, so what could be easier?

We quickly became aware that the sunsets in Hawaii were far more than we have heard about all these years. Just check out our pictures to see what we mean. Even I became a good photographer with just a digital camera.

Yet, the sunsets over Hawaii are somehow different. We now have pictures from many locations throughout the Island, all emphasizing the word "paradise," which we all use to describe Hawaii.

The bottom line: a sunset over Hawaii can't be beat. It is a perfect picture-postcard setting, something that will remain in our memories for some time to come. At best, we’ve all seen sunsets elsewhere, here and there, that may rival what one may see in Hawaii, but for one, it wasn't in Hawaii, was it? Just being there puts a different perspective on any sunset.

Therefore, enjoy Hawaii, not from start to finish, but here, you can experience it at the end. What's between is up to you.

Take Time to Smell the Air

  • August 31, 2004

Late afternoon, early evening -- right after a day at the pool, drop off your stuff in the room and go back down to the hammocks, if you are staying at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kauai. If you aren't, that's okay, find a quiet romantic location, like maybe hanging out on your balcony or in the chaise lounge chairs of your pool, whatever.

You can enjoy a relaxing moment taking in the day's activities while your swinging on the hammock or enjoying the view.

Take time to smell the ocean air! Don't rush moments like this, this is what you will remember when you get back home.

Sunset

A common meeting ground beach for locals and tourists alike. There's a big area to swim, surf, or just hang out. The water is so blue and clear, and don't be suprised by all the sealife. It gives a perfect view of a true Hawaiian sunset.
