The annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival is a film-lovers paradise. The setting is beautiful coastal California with access to the mountains and the sea--and so much to do!

The festival screens more than 200 films each year, including films from around the world and a number of interesting sidebars such as extreme sports, Asian films and Latino films.

They also have a number of special events and the celebrities come out in full force! Hollywood is only a short drive away so getting a ticket to one of the evening events usually ensures a celebrity experience.

The movie theatres are all situated on State Street, which is full of shops and restaurants and has great nightlife as well.

There are so many events and movies to choose from, but you also have the backdrop of Santa Barbara and all of the happenings in the artistic community.

Every year I go (it's usually January/February) I go home happy. I love the experience of being a part of something that feels connected to the community and connected to the world. Plus I get to see some great movies that either aren't in the theatre yet or might not make a big splash like the blockbusters.

I like the Hotel Santa Barbara in State Street because it's historic and in the middle of the action, but I've also stayed at the Franciscan Inn (closer to the beach) and the Cheshire Cat (B+B) and liked those, too.

You can read more about it and see the films on the website www.sbfilmfestival.org
