Easy Hike

Easy Hike

Buy a $15 trail pass that will be good for a week. Most trail heads have vending machines where you can buy a pass, as do many of the hotels (like ours at Sedona Pines).

If you plan to hike, the Airport Loop Trail is a great way to start. Ranked as easy-to-moderate, the trail takes you up above Sedona so you can get a clear view of the terrain. Locals avoid this trail because it's very much a part of civilization--you might hear a plane or two and you can certainly see construction and hotels. But you'll also gets lots of red rock in all of its orange glory, an occasional lizard or two, and some incredibly hearty desert flowers and cottonwood.

The entire loop will take you a leisurely 2.5 hours. It's neither crowded nor empty; you'll see an occasional hiker but nowhere near the crowds you'd encounter at the Grand Canyon.

This web site will give you a detailed description of the hike as well as many others http://www.greatsedonahikes.com/

There really aren't any significant steep parts to the trail. It is rocky and my opinion is that kids over the age of six could do it unless they are the "complain a lot" type. BRING WATER.

It's mostly a gentle slope up along the side of a large hill. There are great views of the other red rock formations off in the distance.
